Musician Ess Thee Legend has said choosing a marriage partner should involve more than romantic feelings, arguing that marriage functions as a partnership that requires careful consideration.
Speaking on the premiere edition of The F Word on Pluzz FM, Ess Thee Legend said women carry significant responsibility when choosing a life partner because that decision also affects future children and family life.
According to her, women should consider whether a potential partner is prepared for the responsibilities of fatherhood and marriage.
“You have to think of your job, his job, what’s the reality of living with that person,” she said.
The artiste noted that while love is important, practical considerations should not be ignored.
She suggested that people should assess whether a partner is capable of providing care and support, particularly during periods when a woman may be unable to work because of pregnancy and childcare responsibilities.
During the discussion, Ess Thee Legend described marriage as a business partnership in which both individuals work together to build a future.
“You need to pick somebody who’s going to help you build your life and build together,” she said.
She also stressed the importance of personal character, arguing that financial resources alone are not enough to sustain a healthy relationship.
According to her, some people have money but lack qualities such as kindness, affection and generosity.
Ess Thee Legend chose both love and stability as essential ingredients for marriage. She said women have significant control over who they choose to settle down with and should ensure their partners possess the qualities they desire.
Her comments formed part of a broader conversation among the panelists about modern relationships, finances, and expectations in marriage.
