Avenor Building Collapse Leaves Two Dead, One Critical After Heavy Downpour
Building collapse at Avenor

Another structure in the suburb of Accra has collapsed after a heavy downpour.

This time, it took place on Sunday morning at the North Industrial Area in Avenor, next to Melcom Plus and across from the Ashfoam Showroom.

Firefighters and representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) are on site to rescue any survivors.

Currently, two persons have reportedly  been rescued and taken to the hospital.

Since then, two bodies have been recovered from the rubble.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Public Relations department reported that one of them was in critical condition.

The initial responses were officers from the GNFS National headquarters and the Circle Fire Station.

Adjacent the collapsed structure is a mosque where one of the rescued victims was trapped.

One individual was killed in a similar incident at Adenta last Wednesday, June 3.

After visiting the location of the tragedy, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang reaffirmed the need for individuals to "do the right things."

“There are many things we can all prevent, and it is about doing the right things—we know them. We don’t need to wait. As we are standing here, we are being told that somebody is trapped in there. Why should this happen?"

"So please, all I am saying is that let us abide by the rules. I said only yesterday or so that rules may not always make sense, and nobody likes them, but we need rules. Otherwise, nothing will function,” she said, urging individuals to set up for proper accounts and doing a thorough investigation for a better account.
