Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has paid an emotional tribute to the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba, marking one year since the legendary musician’s passing.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media on Sunday, the award-winning rapper reflected on the pain of losing one of Ghana’s most influential musicians, saying the news of Lumba’s death had left him devastated.

“A year ago today, we heard the heartbreaking news of your passing. I still remember vividly where I was when I received the news. It completely shattered me, and it was so difficult to believe,” Sarkodie wrote.

He also revealed that beyond Lumba’s music, he deeply misses the personal encouragement the highlife legend offered throughout his career.

“I miss your texts every now and then, telling me to keep pushing and reminding me how proud you were of me,” he added before ending the tribute with a prayer: “Daddy, we miss you and you will forever remain in our hearts. May God be with you until we meet again. We love you always.”

The tribute resonated with fans, many of whom also shared memories of Daddy Lumba’s enduring impact on Ghanaian music and culture.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest highlife musicians, with a catalogue spanning more than three decades and songs that continue to influence generations of artistes, including Sarkodie.
