A multi-story building in Osu, Greater Accra Region, was demolished by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in cooperation with representatives of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly after it was deemed structurally unsafe due to a partial collapse.
On Monday, June 8, excavators were sent to the location to demolish the decaying building, which had been determined to pose a serious risk to the safety of adjacent businesses, residents, and pedestrians.

The demolition came after the more than 50-year-old structure partially collapsed on Sunday, which alarmed locals and forced the authorities to act quickly.
According to officials, the exercise was a component of measures to protect local residents' lives and property and stop additional structural breakdown.
The building was initially a seven-storey but was reduced to four after three stories collapsed in an earlier incident.
In order to prevent additional collapse and potential fatalities, the remaining structure was later removed.
The demolition comes in the face of mounting worries about the security of deteriorating and aging structures throughout the nation's capital, especially in light of the country's ongoing severe rains.

The Osu demolition comes after a three-story structure at Avenor in North Kaneshie collapsed on Sunday, June 7, leaving three people dead and several injured.
