Nearly nine months after its announcement, the first look at the upcoming Ye-focused documentary In Whose Name? has arrived. Directed by Nico Ballesteros, the minute-long teaser — premiered exclusively via Deadline on Wednesday — offers an intimate glimpse into the life and mind of the artist formerly known as Kanye West.
The clip opens with Ye revealing, “I’m off my meds for five months now.” He later addresses his bipolar disorder diagnosis, a subject he has publicly wrestled with over the years. In the teaser, however, Ye reframes the condition as a source of creative power, echoing themes from his 2018 self-titled album recorded during his marathon GOOD Music sessions in Wyoming.
“You know the best thing about being an artist and bipolar? Anything you do and say is an art piece,” Ye says in the preview, positioning his life and work as an ongoing creative statement.
While further details on the release date remain under wraps, In Whose Name? promises to offer a deeply personal exploration of Ye’s artistry, mental health journey, and the controversies that have surrounded him in recent years.
