Ghanaian songbird has joined the star-studded lineup of South African rapper AKA's posthumous album, Mass Country, becoming the only Ghanaian musician to be featured on the album. The album was released today, February 24, 2023.
The record, dubbed a "parting gift" and "love letter to South Africa," demonstrates AKA's affection for his birthplace as well as the many styles that comprise the local music scene. It also features Khuli Chana, Blxckie, Nadia Nakai, Emtee, Yanga Chief, Sjava and other South African Hip hop artistes. Gyakie's contribution to the album is a pre-released song named Paradise which also includes Musa Keys. It's a love song in which AKA sings and raps about everything he's willing to and has done for the love of his life.
In a Guide Radio interview last year, AKA professed his admiration for Gyakie's voice. The song was recorded last year on one of Gyakie's travels to South Africa, where she performed at the Homecoming Festival and received a double platinum certification certificate for her 2021 single, Forever and (2020) Seed EP, marking a key milestone in her career.
Gyakie has made a name for herself in the African music industry, receiving recognition for her extraordinary talent and distinct voice. She is Ghana's leading female musician, making strides and spanning borders in the music industry. This isn't her first time working with South African artistes. She was also featured on a tune by Major League DJz, one of the most well-known Amapiano acts.
Mass Country, which was released posthumously following AKA's tragic shooting a few weeks ago, comprises tracks from AKA, Nasty C, Khuli Chana, Nadia Nakai and other big stars in the South African music scene.
