Director Joseph Kahn Claims He Originated the Glambot Before Cole Walliser
Director Joseph Kahn
Renowned director Joseph Kahn has publicly stated that he is the original creator of the Glambot, revealing that the now-iconic red carpet camera technique was his idea years before it became widely associated with filmmaker Cole Walliser.

In a recent statement, Kahn explained that he developed the Glambot concept in 2016 while working with E! Entertainment. According to him, the technical and creative foundation of the high-speed, ultra-glamorous slow-motion camera system was entirely his design.

“Yes I created it back in 2016 for E! The lighting, camera work, lens choices, and methodology are all my design,” Kahn said.

The Glambot has since become a staple of major red carpet events, particularly at award shows, where celebrities are filmed in dramatic slow motion as they pose and interact with the camera. Over the years, the format has gone viral on social media, helping shape modern red carpet aesthetics and online celebrity culture.

While Cole Walliser has been widely credited for popularizing the Glambot in later years, Kahn’s statement reopens the conversation around the origins of the technique and the creative ownership behind one of pop culture’s most recognizable visual formats.

Joseph Kahn is best known for directing high-profile music videos for artists such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Eminem and Britney Spears, as well as feature films. His claim adds a new layer to discussions about innovation, credit and recognition in the entertainment and media production space.

As the Glambot continues to evolve and dominate red carpet coverage, Kahn’s revelation highlights the often-unseen creative groundwork that shapes viral media moments long before they capture the public’s attention.
