The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has sent stern warning to students, businesses, professional associations, and the general public about 70 tertiary institutions whose degrees are not accepted in Ghana because of quality assurance issues.
In a statement released on Monday, June 1, 2026, the commission stated that when evaluating degrees, certificates, diplomas, and other academic credentials from these establishments, the public should proceed with caution.
Although the Commission did not state the specific reasons for each institution's placement on the list, GTEC claims that the impacted institutions were found because of a variety of quality assurance issues.
The United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, India, Mexico, Liberia, Nigeria, Zambia, Italy, France, Guyana, Germany, Costa Rica, Cambodia, Barbados, Andorra, and Ghana are just a few of the nations that GTEC has designated institutions.
Universities, business schools, management schools, theological seminaries, online learning establishments, and professional training courses are all included in the list.
The warning raised worries among students and graduates who might have earned credentials from a number of Ghanaian universities.
