Ghanaian-American singer and songwriter Moliy, widely celebrated for her genre-bending sound and global hit SHAKE IT TO THE MAX (FLY), has inked a global publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music, the publishing arm of Warner Music Group.
The agreement, marks a significant milestone in Moliy’s career, covering both her existing catalog and future works. Unlike a traditional record label contract, which oversees recording, production, and distribution, a publishing deal focuses on the management, licensing, and monetization of an artiste’s songwriting compositions.
Through this partnership, Warner Chappell will administer Moliy’s songwriting rights on a global scale, ensuring she receives royalties from streams, sales, radio play, live performances, and international usage. The publisher will also explore sync opportunities for her music, positioning her songs for placements in films, commercials, television, and gaming platforms.
In addition, Warner Chappell is expected to provide creative support, connecting Moliy with other songwriters, producers, and collaborators through writing camps and tailored projects. This move not only expands her reach but also strengthens her presence in international markets.
Moliy has consistently expressed her desire to maintain independence and full creative control. In recent interviews, she revealed her hesitation toward signing with record labels, citing the restrictions that often come with such deals. The Warner Chappell partnership strikes a balance, offering her the infrastructure of a global powerhouse while allowing her to preserve her autonomy as an artiste.
Moliy’s deal also underscores the rising recognition of African and diaspora talent on global platforms. By partnering with Warner Chappell, she joins a growing list of African creatives leveraging publishing agreements to expand beyond regional markets.
As she continues to carve out her own path, Moliy’s fusion of Afrobeat, R&B, and soul is now set to reach even wider audiences, with the backing of a company that has helped shape the careers of some of the world’s most successful songwriters.
