Ghanaian singer-songwriter Derrick Offei-Awuku, popularly known as Offei, delivered a standout performance over the weekend at the inaugural AfroFuture Detroit festival, marking another milestone in his rising international career.
Originating in Ghana in 2017 and previously known as Afrochella, AfroFuture has expanded into the U.S. market, making its Detroit debut at Bedrock’s Douglass Site this past weekend. The festival spotlighted headliners such as Asake, Davido, Ludmilla, and Kaytranada, alongside immersive cultural offerings, from fashion and food to art installations and marketplace experiences.
Offei, who blends Afrobeats, R&B, and Afrofusion, joined the lineup as a rising star from Ghana. His appearance at the festival was accompanied by a vibrant social media presence: backstage snapshots captured him connecting with fellow Ghanaian acts like KiDi and King Promise, along with American rapper Waka Flocka.
His presence at AfroFuture Detroit not only reinforced his growing global appeal but also reflected the festival’s mission to bridge African and diasporic artistry. AfroFuture’s U.S. expansion aligns with its vision of celebrating, educating, and sharing African culture through immersive music, art, fashion, and food.
