Ghanaian
musician and rapper, Papi Adabraka has disclosed that he is largely unbothered
by online insults and trolling, insisting that social media attacks do not
affect his personal life or career.
The
rapper shared his views on cyberbullying, fan behaviour and online abuse
targeting public figures in an interview on Culture Daily on 3Music TV.
His reaction follows the arrest of blogger popularly known as Webkid Afrika,
who is facing charges for allegedly publishing false, offensive social media
posts targeting musician Stonebwoy and his family.
When
asked how he handles trolls online, Papi explained that he prioritises
real-life challenges over comments made on social media.
“Oh,
boss, I’m hungry, I want money. What are you going to tell me that will affect
me? Give me money and insult me," he said.
According
to him, many people who insult celebrities online are often looking for
reactions and attention.
“There
are some people that, when they disrespect you, they are waiting for you to
react," he stated.
Papi
also questioned the influence of people who attack artistes online, arguing
that successful people rarely spend time insulting others in comment sections.
“How
many rich people you see in comment sections online?” he asked
The
rapper, however, drew a line between harmless online banter and comments that
target family members or could trigger violence.
“Fans
should be allowed to do whatever they want. Just that when it’s about to get
violent, then you will stop, because we don’t like violence,” he said.
Papi
also admitted that confrontations in real life are different from online
exchanges, joking that insults delivered face-to-face may receive a harsher
response.
