Rapper, record producer and co-host of Culture Daily, Cyril-Alex Gockel, better known as C-Real has stated that music enthusiasts are among the reasons why it might be difficult for musicians to work together.
Speaking on 3Music TV’s Culture Daily he explained that when musicians work together to create a song, fans are often eager to compare the efforts of the artistes involved. This, in his opinion, prevents musicians from collaborating more as they turn to safeguard their reputation and craft.
His allegations come in the wake of recent social media debates about the reasons why some Ghanaian entertainers struggle to feature themselves.
“The fans are also part of the situation because they turn everything into a competition and as an artiste with a fan base, you are always reactive to how your fans perceive your content.”
Citing an example he continued;
“So if Olele features Jay Foley and all Olele fans come online and their job is to forget that there’s a beautiful collaboration and they are focusing on how Olele performed as to how Jay Foley performed, they turned out to do analysis and who is a better competition instead of saying look at this great song. Then that’s where people’s egos and certain behaviours jump in. So tomorrow when you get a feature request you are thinking about it. You don’t invest in the song and the collaboration of it. Trying to protect your brand and interest.”
In an effort to offer solutions, the C-Real advised the public to support all artistes when they collaborate and not pick sides.
“They have collaborated. Let’s push the collaboration, the song and make it more tolerable for our celebrities to come together and work.”
The question of why some Ghanaian artistes are so reluctant to collaborate has become a hot topic during the past few days with some musicians sharing their sentiments.
