Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian
Grammy-winning artiste, Burna Boy have officially released Dai Dai,
the official anthem for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The song, released on May 14, marks Shakira’s
return to the World Cup music stage more than a decade after her globally
successful 2010 anthem Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).
Dai Dai blends
Afrobeats and Latin pop influences, with stadium-style chants and energetic
percussion aimed at capturing the atmosphere of football’s biggest tournament.
The collaboration has already generated strong reactions online following
teaser videos filmed at Brazil’s iconic Maracanã Stadium.
In promotional clips shared across social media platforms, Shakira appeared alongside dancers dressed in the colours of participating nations while snippets of the song played in the background. The teaser ended with the phrase "We’re ready", building anticipation for the tournament scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026.
Shakira announced the release in a social media
post saying: “From Maracaná Stadium, here is Dai Dai, the FIFA World
Cup Official Song 2026.”
The project further expands Burna Boy’s growing
international profile and highlights the increasing global influence of
Afrobeats on mainstream entertainment and sporting culture. Industry observers
say the collaboration reflects FIFA’s push toward a more multicultural sound
for the expanded 48-team tournament.
The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, making it the first tournament to feature 48 national teams. The final is expected to be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.
Shakira has maintained a long-standing
relationship with FIFA tournaments over the years. Apart from Waka Waka
in South Africa in 2010, she also performed Hips Don’t Lie during the
2006 World Cup celebrations in Germany and La La La (Brazil 2014)
during the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
