Nigerian music superstar Tiwa Savage has opened up about how she became the first female artiste signed to Mavin Records, revealing that she personally asked Don Jazzy to sign her when he launched the label.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, Tiwa Savage disclosed that despite her close relationship with Don Jazzy during the era of Mo’ Hits Records, she was never officially signed to the label.

According to the award-winning singer, things changed when Don Jazzy founded Mavin Records following the breakup of Mo’ Hits Records. Tiwa said she boldly approached the producer and requested to join the new label.

“I shamelessly asked Don Jazzy to sign me to Mavin Records,” she revealed during the interview.

The singer explained that Don Jazzy agreed to the request, making her the first female act to officially join the label. Her signing later became one of the defining moments in Afrobeats, with Tiwa Savage growing into one of Africa’s biggest music exports under the Mavin brand.

Tiwa Savage’s revelation has sparked conversations online, with many fans praising her confidence and determination, while others highlighted the importance of taking opportunities without fear.

Over the years, Tiwa Savage has released several hit songs and has become one of the leading female voices in African music, earning international recognition and collaborations with global stars.
