The 8th edition of the Accra Indie Filmfest is set to take place from July 27 to July 31, 2026, with organisers unveiling an official selection of 43 short films from 22 countries.
This year’s festival, themed Resilience in Motion, will also feature two special screening films, bringing the total number of films participating in the event to 45.
According to organisers, the selected films reflect stories from Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, exploring themes including identity, migration, healing, resistance, social justice, memory, and hope.
They said the 2026 edition aims to highlight the determination of filmmakers and creatives who continue to tell stories despite challenges facing the global creative industry and changing cultural landscapes.
Since its establishment in 2019, Accra Indie Filmfest has positioned itself as a platform for independent short films and cross-cultural exchange, connecting filmmakers, audiences, and industry players from different parts of the world.
This year’s five-day event will take place at the Alliance Francaise and will include film screenings, panel discussions, question-and-answer sessions, workshops, masterclasses, networking sessions, and the AiF Music Synergy Concert alongside the festival’s award ceremony.
Organisers say the festival continues to focus on promoting emerging voices in independent cinema while creating conversations around global and African storytelling.
The festival is expected to bring together filmmakers, media professionals, cultural institutions, audiences, and industry stakeholders in Accra for the annual celebration of independent cinema.
