Having worked with over two thousand girls since its inception, the foundation started in Canada in 2013 and began its operations in Ghana between 2016 and 2017, running support programs and providing scholarships amongst other things for young girls. She opened up about the Power of the Girl Conference which is in its second year and was borne out of the celebration of the international day of the girl child, a United Nations backed advocacy for the amplification of girls’ voices and a recommital to working together to build a world where every girl can lead and thrive.
The conference according to her, is targeted at Jhs and Shs girls ensuring that opportunities are given to different girls from different locations after which selected schools are engaged post-conference with ongoing programs to avail the girls continuous access. A digital platform called MY Power App is also used as a tool to ease connections to mentors and access to resources amongst others. Still speaking to Lerny, she revealed the rationale behind the program's target of younger girls as the need to support girls at the stage of their lives where they begin to transition and struggle to identify themselves and their transformative periods.
The conference themed after the United Nations theme, "Our Time Is Now", for the celebration of the International day of the girl child will encompass a number of specific areas and themes, from robotics, personal development, entrepreneurship and other thematic areas, identifiable with the Power To Girls foundation.
