In a historic achievement, French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura’s hit single DJADJA has surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube, making it the first music video by a female African artiste to reach this milestone. Released in 2018, DJADJA quickly gained international acclaim, topping charts in multiple countries and solidifying Nakamura’s status as a global music sensation. This accomplishment also marks DJADJA as the fourth French-language song to exceed 1 billion views on the platform, joining the ranks of Dernière Danse by Indila, Papaoutai by Stromae, and Ego by Willy William.  




At 29, Aya Nakamura has become the youngest French artist to achieve this feat, further highlighting her significant impact on the global music scene.  

The success of DJADJA has transcended linguistic and cultural barriers, resonating with audiences worldwide and contributing to the global appreciation of Francophone and African music. Nakamura’s unique blend of Afropop, soul, and dancehall elements has redefined contemporary French music, paving the way for future artistes in the genre.
