Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that approval has been granted for a Ghanaian passport to be issued to global streaming sensation IShowSpeed, citing his growing ties to the country.

The decision follows IShowSpeed’s recent visit to Ghana during his widely publicized Africa tour, where he engaged in cultural activities, visited iconic landmarks and participated in traditional ceremonies. During his stay, he was given a Ghanaian name, Barima Kofi Akuffo, in recognition of his embrace of Ghanaian culture.

“Following our discussions and subsequent confirmation of the irrefutable ties of IShowSpeed to Ghana, I am pleased to inform the public that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved the issuance of a Ghanaian passport to him,” Minister Ablakwa said.

The Minister also praised Wode Maya, the Ghanaian travel vlogger and content creator, for his role in connecting IShowSpeed with local communities and promoting Ghana on the global stage. He described both individuals as worthy ambassadors for the country and the African continent.

IShowSpeed’s visit included tours of Independence Square, Asenema Waterfalls, and other cultural landmarks. The streamer also participated in a traditional ceremony in Akropong, further cementing his connection to Ghanaian heritage.

Analysts say the move reflects Ghana’s strategy to engage global influencers and members of the African diaspora, leveraging their digital reach to showcase the country’s culture, tourism and vibrant lifestyle internationally.

The issuance of a passport to IShowSpeed highlights Ghana’s growing recognition of the cultural and soft power influence of global content creators who actively contribute to the country’s visibility on international platforms.
