R&B singer Cassie Ventura accused hip-hop mogul Diddy of rape and a decade-long pattern of abuse in a federal lawsuit filed on November 16, 2023. The alleged abuse began when Ventura was just 19 years old and included sex trafficking, human trafficking, sexual battery, sexual assault, and gender-motivated violence.
According to the lawsuit, the abuse occurred during Ventura's time signed to Diddy's label, Bad Boy Records. The lawsuit was settled out of court the very next day, but the details of the settlement remain undisclosed.
In a disturbing development, CNN has released footage of an incident in 2016 showing Ventura being assaulted by Diddy. The footage, appears to show Diddy physically attacking Ventura in a violent altercation.
Ventura's lawsuit and the released footage have sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability. The music industry has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years over its handling of sexual misconduct and abuse allegations.
The case has also raised questions about the use of non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in settling abuse cases, with some arguing that they perpetuate a culture of silence and enable further abuse.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive problem of sexual abuse and violence in the entertainment industry, and the need for greater accountability and support for survivors.
