Award-winning actress and singer Cynthia Erivo has officially made Golden Globes history, becoming the first Black woman ever to receive multiple nominations in the Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category.
The milestone comes with her 2025 nomination for portraying Elphaba in WICKED: FOR GOOD, the highly anticipated sequel to the musical fantasy film WICKED. This marks Erivo’s second nomination in the same category, following her 2024 recognition for the original WICKED film. A precedent no other Black woman has achieved in the Golden Globes’ 80-plus-year history.
Erivo’s achievement represents a significant advancement in Hollywood’s evolving awards landscape, highlighting both her extraordinary talent and the increasing visibility of Black women in leading roles within musical and comedic cinema.
Known for her powerhouse vocals and critically acclaimed performances across film, television and Broadway, Erivo continues to carve a groundbreaking path. Her latest nomination further solidifies her status as one of the most influential performers of her generation.
