Ghanaian musician Cyrus Gooddays recently appeared on 3Music TV's 3hread Special, where he delved into his life, music, and the deep-rooted tradition and culture that influence his work. Proudly identifying as an Ewe man, Cyrus shared his love for his heritage, which he seamlessly blends with contemporary music to create a unique sound.
Cyrus emphasized the importance of staying true to one's identity, especially in a world where modernity often leads people to lose themselves. He revealed that his journey of self-discovery required him to reconnect with his roots, which has significantly shaped his music.
A central focus of the interview was Cyrus's latest project, VOICE OF VINOKO. He explained that the project was inspired by Vinoko, one of the greatest composers from Ewe land, who used music to narrate his life's story. Cyrus found a deep connection between Vinoko's journey and his own, which led him to create VOICE OF VINOKO as a reflection of his life, struggles, and experiences. The project is also heavily influenced by the Ewe tradition of "Hakpanya," meaning poetry in English, which adds a layer of cultural richness to his music.
Discussing the evolution of his music, Cyrus noted a significant shift in his artistic direction. Unlike his previous tracks, he now incorporates more of the Ewe language into his songs, further solidifying his identity as a descendant of the Ewe tribe. This change, he believes, not only honors his roots but also allows him to offer something unique to his listeners.
Cyrus expressed his hope that listeners would find healing through his music, even though he acknowledges that he cannot control how people receive it. His primary wish is for the music to resonate with listeners on a deep, emotional level.
When it comes to collaborations, Cyrus described the process as spontaneous, giving special thanks to his producer, Ayikwao, for his incredible work on the project. He also praised male vocalist Asiama, calling him the next big vocalist in Ghana.
As for defining success, Cyrus believes that true success for VOICE OF VINOKO will be measured by its ability to resonate with listeners. He encouraged everyone to listen to the project and allow the music to work its magic.
