Veteran Kumawood actor Mr. Beautiful has disclosed that his political inclination forced him out of the movie industry.
The actor whose real name is Clement Bonney opened up about this in an interview with Emelia Brobbey, claiming that producers sidelined him after he became active in politics.
He claimed that producers initially hesitated giving him roles because of his Fante and suggested he speaks more Twi to fit in.
Mr. Beautiful recalled a moment when one Mr. Opoku told him to speak twi like his colleague actor Agya Koo and others because he could not translate Fante into English subtitles.
He, however, noted that he remained to his true self despite the attempts to change him and later realize it was just an excuse.
"There was a man, his name is Mr Opoku, who used to do the subtitles for the movies. He started saying he didn't understand my Fanti. I am a Fanti man, I can't speak like Agya Koo or McBrown, I'm comfortable speaking my Fanti. I couldn't fake the language just because they wanted me to," he explained.
Speaking about his political affiliation, Mr. Beautiful contended that it took the then treasurer of the Ghana Movie Producers Association, Paul Gee to reveal to him why he was no longer getting acting roles.
He said Paul Gee admitted to him that they were not comfortable working with him because he was political.
The Nsa Fu-fuo actor said after that revelation, the opportunities ceased completely as he claims producers united against him.
"He told me clearly that they couldn't work with me because they saw me in an NDC platform. He told me straight that I was political," he recounted.
"I wasn't being called for shoots anymore. No producer was contacting me, including miracle, and that was when I realized it was an industry decision," he added.
Despite the disappointment, Mr. Beautiful said he accepted his fate and moved on with life.
