I Used To Cry In Don Jazzy's Room During Difficult Times - Tiwa Savage

What happens when artistes who make our days with their craft break down?

Well, Nigerian Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has been talking about an emotional moment with her former label, Marvin Records and the support the entire team offered her during difficult times.

Tiwa Savage who was sharing this in an episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast with Joey Akan, described Mavin Records as more than just a music company but a support system that artiste could emotionally rely on.

According to her, she realized and appreciated the record more after moving to a foreign one that did not offer the same treatments.

"Who you signed to is very important and I didn’t appreciate it until after I left Mavin," she said.

"Mavin is still like family. So, if there is something going on, online or whatever, I promise you, I will run to Jazzy’s room and we will all come like, Dr Sid, Tega, Reekado Banks, all of us in the room, on the floor, on the bed. We will talk about it, if I have to cry and whatever and we will get through it."

Contrasting that, the 46-year-old said she did not enjoy that kind of support from her current label due to its structure.

"But being with a [foreign] label, they don’t really care about your personal stuff. So, I can’t really go to the Empire office and cry,” she added.

The All Over singer advised other artiste to be mindful of the kind of labels they signed to and look beyond the financial benefits.

“I miss that part. I learned that it is really, really important to be really able to discern if whoever you are signing with really, really cares or if you are just (a dollar cheque),” she advised.

She further stated that having emotional support and care as artiste, makes a lot of difference in their outputs.

“It makes a difference if they care for you as a person as opposed to just because the minute you stop making the hits,” she said.
