Renowned Ghanaian musician, D Cryme, was a guest on 3Music TV's 3hread Special hosted by Essilfua, where he gave fans insight into his evolving artistry, his recent EP UNEXPECTED 3, and the personal inspiration behind his music. The interview was filled with energy and humor as the two conversed about his music, creative process, and reflections on love and career longevity.
D Cryme, whose real name is Darlington Kwasi Agyekum, shared details about his latest project, UNEXPECTED, released on July 19, 2023, a day before his birthday. The EP is the third installment of his UNEXPECTED series, featuring three songs, each produced and directed by different individuals. He explained that the idea behind the UNEXPECTED concept is to surprise his fans, avoiding traditional promotional announcements. According to him, before you know, it's that gentle slapper, but it brings joy.
When asked about the reception to the EP, D Cryme expressed gratitude, noting the unique aspect of releasing music without much buildup. He revealed that UNEXPECTED 3 features three distinct genres, with live instrumentalists contributing to the songs. The EP embodies a well-thought-out concept, from production to execution, with the aim of keeping fans on their toes.
D Cryme also reflected on his growth as an artiste, comparing his current work to his early years. "Everybody has the time and the era they knew Doctor Cryme," he stated, adding that his versatility has allowed him to remain relevant over the years. He acknowledged that change can be difficult for audiences, but it is essential for his creative journey. "Being a character means you've got to be versatile all the time," he said.
Throughout the interview, D Cryme and Essilfua shared light-hearted moments, with the musician serenading the host with lyrics from his songs, including his hit track "Kill Me Shy" and new songs from the EP like "Gogome." He explained that the themes of love and romance often run through his music, inspired by everyday conversations and experiences. "Love is kind...love is priceless like fine wine," he mused, describing his perception of love and its influence on his songwriting.
As the conversation wrapped up, D Cryme teased future projects, hinting that fans should expect more unexpected releases. His commitment to staying true to his roots while evolving musically was evident, as he continues to blend local and international styles in his music.
Fans of D Cryme can stream UNEXPECTED 3 on all major platforms and look forward to more surprises from the Da General in the coming months.
