Diddy’s Trial Begins: Two Witnesses Testify to Alleged Abuse and Coercion Involving Cassie

The highly anticipated federal trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs commenced on Monday with emotional testimony from two key witnesses who detailed disturbing incidents involving singer Cassie Ventura, Diddy’s former partner.

The first to take the stand was Officer Israel Florez, now a member of the Los Angeles Police Department. In March 2016, however, he was serving as the assistant director of security at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. Florez testified about an incident in which he responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving Combs and Ventura. He told the court that Cassie appeared distressed and eager to leave the premises. Surveillance footage shown during the trial appeared to capture Combs physically assaulting Ventura. Florez also alleged that Combs offered him $100,000 to suppress the footage — an offer he refused.

The second witness, Daniel Phillip, a former male stripper, testified that he had been paid to engage in sexual acts with Ventura while Combs watched. These encounters, he said, occurred between 2012 and 2013, with Combs allegedly giving instructions and filming the acts. Phillip also recounted witnessing Combs physically abuse Ventura, including slapping her, dragging her by the hair, and throwing a liquor bottle at her. He told the court that he eventually cut off communication with Combs due to fear and emotional distress from what he had witnessed.

Combs has denied all allegations, pleading not guilty to charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. His legal team maintains that all relationships were consensual and have labeled the claims financially motivated fabrications.

Cassie Ventura is expected to testify next, with her statements likely to be pivotal in the case. The trial, expected to last approximately eight weeks, continues Tuesday in Manhattan federal court.
