Eminem bolstered his hip-hop legacy at the 2025 American Music Awards, held on May 26, 2025, at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, clinching both Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artiste and Favorite Hip-Hop Album for his 12th studio album, THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (Coup De Grâce). Beating out heavyweights like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Tyler, The Creator, the Detroit rapper secured his ninth AMA win, his first since 2014’s victory for THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP 2.

The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 281,000 equivalent album units, marking the biggest sales week for a rap album in 2024. THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (Coup De Grâce), a concept album exploring the battle between Eminem and his alter ego Slim Shady, features 19 tracks with guest appearances from Big Sean, BabyTron, JID, Jelly Roll, and Skylar Grey.

Its lead single, HOUDINI, hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, while TOBEY and SOMEBODY SAVE ME added emotional and cultural depth. The album’s provocative lyrics and intricate production, helmed by Eminem, Dr. Dre, and others, earned mixed reviews but undeniable fan support, as evidenced by its AMA sweep over nominees like Kendrick Lamar’s GNX and Future’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU.

Though Eminem was absent from the ceremony, his video acceptance speech thanked fans for their votes, a key factor in the fan-driven AMAs. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the event saw Heidi Klum present his award, joking about her own hip-hop credentials. Eminem’s dual wins underscore his enduring influence, with THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY also earning three 2025 Grammy nominations, including Best Rap Album, despite losing to Doechii’s ALLIGATOR BITES NEVER HEAL. Fans continue to celebrate Eminem’s ability to provoke and innovate, cementing his status as a rap icon.
