A letter from the French Embassy in Ghana has surfaced online, responding to a petition from the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, an NGO that called for the exclusion of Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie from performing at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The NGO, in a letter dated July 8, 2024, had petitioned the French National Olympic and Sports Committee to exclude Sarkodie, citing reasons that are yet to be made public.

However, in a response dated July 22nd, 2024, the French Embassy in Ghana stated that the selection of artists for the Olympic Games is a decision made by the Olympic organizers and the French Ministry of Sports, and not by the embassy.

The letter further stated that the embassy cannot influence the decision but assured the NGO that their concerns will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

Sarkodie, a renowned Ghanaian rapper, has been a subject of controversy in recent times, with some critics accusing him of promoting harmful lyrics and others hailing him as a cultural icon.

The news has sparked a heated debate on social media, with fans and critics of Sarkodie weighing in on the matter.

It remains to be seen whether Sarkodie will perform at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, but one thing is certain - this controversy has put the Ghanaian rapper in the global spotlight once again.
