Following an intelligence-led operation in Asankragwa that apprehended 112 people suspected of being trafficked into Ghana, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has facilitated the safe return of 105 foreign nationals to their home countries.
The Asankragwa Sector Command led by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Kwabena Adjei conducted the operation on May 20, 2026, targeting locations thought to be harbouring people involved in commercial sex acts in the region.
According to preliminary screening, the group consisted of 110 females between the ages of 12 and 38 from Nigeria, Benin, and Cameroon.
They were subsequently moved to a holding facility in the Greater Accra Region so they could be processed further.

The Anti-Human Smuggling and Trafficking in Persons (AHSTIP) Unit conducted additional investigations that confirmed 105 victims of trafficking and identified seven suspects.
The victims' safe return to their home countries was made possible by the Service's National Operations Department in collaboration with the appropriate embassies and members of the Cameroonian community in Ghana.
The seven suspects are still being investigated and if they are proven guilty, they will likely be prosecuted.
Comptroller-General of the Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu advised foreigners to abide by Ghana's criminal and immigration rules.
He reiterated the Service's dedication to working with other security organisations to stop transnational crimes like migrant smuggling and human trafficking while shielding vulnerable people from exploitation.
