Residents of Tema Community 1 were left in shock on the afternoon of Monday, 16th March after a helicopter crashed into a park near Oninku Drive, leaving at least three people feared dead.
The aircraft reportedly plunged from the sky and crashed into the Oninku Drive School Park, a recreational area located near residential homes and a daycare facility. Witnesses say the helicopter appeared to be struggling in the air moments before it went down.
Eyewitness accounts describe a terrifying scene as the aircraft descended rapidly before crashing into the park, sending debris across the area and drawing crowds of stunned residents.
Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service, quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area and begin recovery operations.
Initial reports suggest that three individuals on board the helicopter are feared dead, though authorities are yet to officially confirm the identities of the victims or the exact number of casualties.
The crash occurred in a busy part of the community, raising concerns among residents. Fortunately, early reports indicate that no casualties have been recorded among people on the ground.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Aviation officials are expected to examine the wreckage and gather evidence to establish whether mechanical failure, weather conditions, or human error may have contributed to the incident.
Officials say more information will be released as investigations continue.
