Nigerian culinary star Hilda Baci has earned another historic accolade after Guinness World Records confirmed her successful attempt at cooking the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice. The record-breaking feat, achieved at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos on September 12, 2025, produced a staggering 8,780 kilograms (19,356 pounds 9 ounces) of the iconic West African dish.
The achievement, which generated approximately 16,600 plates of jollof, required more than 200 bags of rice and consumed close to 1,200 kilograms of cooking gas. Organisers reported that the preparation spanned about nine hours, supported by a dedicated team of chefs, assistants, and event staff.
The event formed the centrepiece of the World Jollof Festival, staged in partnership with Gino (a GBFoods Nigeria brand), which served as the headline sponsor. The brand provided significant logistical support and culinary supplies, reinforcing its longstanding association with Nigerian cooking. Eko Hotel & Suites hosted the monumental cook-off, while Lush Hair and Viva Plus were among the experiential partners who contributed to the festival’s vibrant atmosphere.
Baci, who first captured global attention with her record-breaking cook-a-thon in 2023, described the latest milestone as a cultural statement. “This was not just about setting a record; it was about showcasing the richness of Nigerian cuisine and bringing people together around a dish that unites West Africa,” she said in remarks shared at the event.
The record has since been widely celebrated, with Guinness World Records announcing the achievement through its official channels. Social media buzzed with videos and images from the cook, with many praising Baci for once again placing Nigerian gastronomy on the global stage.
Industry observers note that the scale and execution of the event underscore how culinary achievements, when paired with strong corporate partnerships, can serve as powerful vehicles for cultural diplomacy and brand visibility.
With this accomplishment, Hilda Baci cements her reputation as a chef who merges skill with spectacle, advancing Nigerian food culture while leveraging bold projects to rally communities and brands alike.
