At Windsor Castle on Tuesday, King Charles honoured a number of celebrities, including actor Sir Idris Elba.

The 53-year-old who is well-known for the police drama Luther and the US criminal series The Wire, received a knighthood in the New Year's Honors for his services to youth.

Additionally, Olympic champions Sir Christopher Dean and Dame Jayne Torvill received knighthoods and damehoods for their contributions to volunteer work and ice skating.

Dame Meera Syal, an actress and comedian best known for Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars At No 42, was honoured for her contributions to theater, writing, and charity.

Sir Idris established the Elba Hope Foundation in 2022 to promote sustainable development, youth advocacy, education, and community empowerment.

At the age of eighteen, the actor attended the National Youth Music Theatre thanks to a grant from the Prince's Trust, which is now the King's Trust.

Last year, it was revealed that the King and the Luther star would collaborate to produce a documentary commemorating the charity's 50th anniversary, which would debut on Netflix this autumn.

At the 1984 Winter Olympics, ice dancers Sir Christopher and Dame Jayne won gold for their Bolero performance.

Later on, the two appeared as the faces of Dancing On Ice, an ITV celebrity competition.

Dame Jayne, 68, said the timing seemed "perfect" after learning about the honor, following their final ice dance together last year.

"It was a big thing for us to mark our career before retirement, and then receiving this award at the end of the year just finished everything," she said.

"We had such a great time, we were so happy with the tour and the fact that we got through it."

Sir Christopher Dean has been the head coach and mentor of the British Ice Skating Academy of Dance, and Dame Jayne Torvill has been a celebrity ambassador for a children's hospice in the South East for almost 20 years.
