Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss has been officially cast as Calvin Broadus Jr. better known as Snoop Dogg in the untitled biopic produced by Universal Picture. The film will be directed by Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name, and Coming 2 America, with a script by Brewer (revising earlier material from Joe Robert Cole).

Snoop Dogg himself will produce alongside Brian Grazer and Sara Ramaker under Death Row Pictures, marking the first film from the banner under its new deal with NBCUniversal Studios. Universal, known for successful rap biopics like Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile, is continuing its hip-hop legacy with this project.

The story will chronicle Snoop’s journey from Long Beach street rapper to global icon, showcasing his early collaborations with Dr. Dre, the release of Doggystyle, and his broad cultural impact, from music and movies to business ventures.

Snoop Dogg shared his excitement on Instagram with the caption “Let’s go nefew!! … it’s time ✅🙏,” while Daviss posted “Bow wow wow,” confirming their enthusiasm for the project  .

Production is now gearing up, though Universal has not yet announced a release date.

This marks a significant opportunity for Jonathan Daviss, expanding beyond television into a major cinematic role, and it signals a cultural deep dive into one of hip-hop’s most iconic figure, supported by Snoop Dogg himself.
