Ghanaian musician Keeny Ice was a guest on 3hread Special, where he shared insights into his career, personal brand, and the challenges of making it in the music industry. From his signature bucket hat to his reflections on awards and recognition, the conversation offered a deep dive into his experiences as an artiste.
Reflecting on his journey so far, Keeny Ice acknowledged significant progress. “Being an unheard artiste for years and then making it into the TGMA nominations was a big deal,” he said, expressing his excitement and gratitude for the recognition.
On the topic of awards, he highlighted the competitive nature of the industry, noting that while some artistes may feel discouraged when they don’t win, the system ultimately pushes everyone to work harder
Proudly hailing from Aflao, a border town near Togo, Keeny Ice described his upbringing as one that instilled a strong hustle spirit in him. "At a young age, you have to fend for yourself. Moving to Accra to pursue music professionally was a big challenge,” he shared. Despite the struggles, he has remained committed to his craft and is now seeing steady growth.
With a career spanning nearly a decade, Keeny Ice has worked with industry heavyweights like Castro, Kofi Kinaata, and Edem. One of his biggest international collaborations was with Nigerian star Victor AD on the song titled EBE GOD. Their song became a major hit and took Kinney Ice to performances in Nigeria’s Delta and Edo States.
Keeny Ice acknowledged that while his fanbase is strong in the Volta Region, he is gradually gaining national recognition. “I’ve created a niche in my region, but now I need to extend my reach," he noted, adding that his TGMA nomination has helped introduce him to a wider audience. He remains optimistic about the future, believing that within the next two years, he will become one of Ghana’s biggest musical exports.
When speaking about musical influences, Keeny Ice listens to a wide range of artistes, including Sarkodie, M.anifest, Black Sherif, Kweku Smoke, and Fameye. He also credits Edem as a major source of inspiration, recalling how their collaboration came about.
With two EPs already out, Keeny Ice is now focused on his debut album, set for release in 2025. He teased an exclusive listening session and promised that fans will love what’s coming.
As his journey continues, Keeny Ice remains committed to growth, consistency, and representing his roots. From his humble beginnings in Aflao to sharing stages with top artistes, his story is one of determination and resilience—qualities that will no doubt propel him even further in the music industry.
