Kendrick Lamar has fortified his reign in hip-hop, leading the 2025 BET Awards with an impressive 10 nominations. The Compton rapper’s critically acclaimed album GNX earned a nod for Album of the Year, while his viral hit NOT LIKE US secured nominations for Video of the Year and Viewer’s Choice Award.

Lamar’s lyrical prowess and cultural impact are further recognized with three Best Collaboration nods for LIKE THAT with Future and Metro Boomin, LUTHER featuring SZA, and 30 FOR 30 with SZA, alongside Video Director of the Year with Dave Free and Best Male Hip Hop Artiste. His dominance follows a landmark 2024, marked by Grammy wins and a historic Super Bowl LIX halftime performance.

Close behind, Doechii, Drake, Future, and GloRilla each garnered six nominations, reflecting the competitive landscape of Black excellence in music. Drake, Lamar’s lyrical rival, competes in categories like Album of the Year for $OME $EXY $ONGS 4 U and Best Male Hip Hop Artiste, while Doechii’s ALLIGATOR BITES NEVER HEAL and GloRilla’s GLORIOUS also vie for top honors.

Future’s nominations, largely tied to his work with Metro Boomin on WE DON’T TRUST YOU, include Best Group and Best Collaboration for LIKE THAT featuring Lamar. Metro Boomin himself earned five nods, while SZA and The Weeknd each scored four, showcasing the depth of talent celebrated at the 25th anniversary of the BET Awards.

Hosted by Kevin Hart, the 2025 BET Awards will air live from Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater on June 9, promising a night of cultural celebration. The event, honoring music, film, television, and sports, will feature a special tribute to 106 & Park with former hosts like AJ & Free and Terrence J. Lamar’s nominations, spanning his solo work and collaborations, underscore his versatility and influence.

As voting for the Viewer’s Choice Award opens soon, fans and industry insiders alike anticipate whether Lamar’s hot streak, bolstered by his Grand National Tour with SZA, will translate into a sweep at this milestone ceremony.
