Ghanaian artiste Kojo Eyshun recently appeared on 3hread Special with Aimee Cherry, where he opened up about his seven-year journey in the music industry, the evolution of his sound, and the release of his latest single, Fantasy.
Kojo Eyshun shared that his name was a deliberate choice, inspired by Ghanaian legends like Ofori Amponsah, Kofi B, and Daddy Lumba, who proudly carried their Ghanaian identities in their music.
His early career was shaped by live performances and university tours at the University of Ghana, Legon. However, a life-altering car accident in 2017 forced him to step back and reevaluate his life. Even during his hiatus, his passion for music never faded, leading to releases in 2018 and 2019, and a resurgence post-COVID in 2022, featuring on Kojo Cue’s song Kama.
Kojo Eyshun, known for contemporary highlife music, felt boxed into a single genre. He expressed that many artistes resist labels because it limits their creative freedom. To showcase his versatility, he embraced Afrobeats and Afro-fusion, culminating in his latest single, Fantasy.
Kojo described Fantasy as a blend of Afrobeats, Afro-fusion, and Amapiano. He recalled how the song came to life—originally just a beat he vibed to, inspiration struck randomly one day on his way to engage in sporting activities with his friends, prompting him to rush to the studio instead and record it.
The music video, directed by Darryl Mansu, was a three-day intensive production, with the first day stretching from 6 AM to 3 AM. Shot in Jamestown, Spintex, and the coastlines of Accra, the video visually embodies the song’s dreamy, surreal theme.
Kojo Eyshun has worked with Kojo Cue, Cina Soul, Titi Owusu, and Camidoh, with unreleased projects featuring AratheJay and more. While he remained tight-lipped about release dates, he hinted at more exciting music on the way.
With Fantasy marking a new phase in his career, Kojo Eshan is set on pushing boundaries and delivering diverse sounds to his audience. His message to fans? Stay tuned, more music is coming, and it will be worth the wait.
