Disney’s live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch is proving to be a major box office force, with the film now tracking to become the first 2025 release to cross the $1 billion mark globally.

As of this week, the heartwarming reimagining of the 2002 animated classic has already grossed over $600 million worldwide, only weeks after its release. This impressive figure comes off a modest production budget of $100 million, signaling a massive return on investment and reaffirming Disney’s dominance in family entertainment.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp (of Marcel the Shell with Shoes On fame), the film stays true to the original’s themes of family, loss, and belonging, while offering fresh visuals and a modern emotional touch that’s resonating with new audiences and nostalgic fans alike.

Critics have praised the film for its heartfelt performances, stunning visual effects—especially the realistic rendering of the mischievous alien Stitch—and its respectful nods to Hawaiian culture.

According to industry trackers, strong international turnout has been a key driver in the film’s performance, particularly in markets like Japan, Brazil, the UK, and the Philippines, where Disney’s family content traditionally performs well. In North America, the film has maintained a steady hold, boosted by positive word-of-mouth and repeat family viewings.
