UK-based podcaster Madame Joyce had an unexpected Detty December moment in Lagos after borrowing a luxury Lamborghini belonging to Nigerian Afrobeats star Zlatan, and getting mobbed by excited fans who believed the rapper was inside.
The incident, which has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, happened during Lagos’ famously hectic traffic. Madame Joyce was riding in Zlatan’s recognizable Lamborghini Urus when fans suddenly surrounded the vehicle, chanting and pressing closer in excitement, convinced they had spotted the ZANKU hitmaker.
Clearly amused and slightly overwhelmed, Madame Joyce captured the moment on video, repeatedly explaining that she wasn’t Zlatan but was simply using his car. “I’m not Zlatan, he just let me use his car. I’m being surrounded because they think Zlatan is in the car,” she said in the clip, laughing through the chaos.
The video quickly sparked reactions online, with many praising Madame Joyce for staying calm and keeping the car doors locked amid the crowd. Others humorously noted how quickly the loud flex disappeared once fans realized Zlatan wasn’t actually inside.
For Madame Joyce, the moment became yet another humorous reflection of life as a Nigerian abroad reconnecting with home culture, something she often explores in her content. The video also highlighted the sheer star power of Zlatan, whose presence alone can be felt simply through his car.
As Detty December continues to draw celebrities and creatives into Lagos, Madame Joyce’s experience has become one of the season’s most talked-about lighthearted moments, proof that in Nigeria, even borrowing the wrong car can turn into a viral story.
