FOREVER
Netflix’s latest teen drama, FOREVER, premiered on May 8th, 2025, offering a contemporary adaptation of Judy Blume’s groundbreaking 1975 novel. Spearheaded by acclaimed showrunner Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane), the eight-episode series transports the story to 2018 Los Angeles, centering on the tender and tumultuous first love between two Black teenagers, Keisha Clark and Justin Edwards.

Lovie Simone portrays Keisha, a confident and ambitious track star with aspirations beyond high school, while Michael Cooper Jr. takes on the role of Justin, a basketball player with dreams of collegiate success. Their rekindled childhood friendship blossoms into a deep romantic connection, challenged by personal ambitions, societal pressures, and the complexities of modern adolescence.

The series delves into themes of identity, intimacy, and the impact of social media on teenage relationships. Notably, the show addresses a pivotal moment involving a leaked video from Keisha’s past, exploring the repercussions on their relationship and individual growth.

Executive produced by Judy Blume herself, alongside Mara Brock Akil and Regina King—who also directs the pilot episode—the adaptation stays true to the emotional honesty of the original work while updating its context to reflect contemporary challenges faced by today’s youth.

FOREVER is now streaming on Netflix, inviting both longtime fans of Blume’s novel and new audiences to experience a heartfelt exploration of young love and self-discovery.
