The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the murder of a student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
In a statement, the police identified the suspect as Michael Mensah, who was arrested on 15 June 2026 at about 19:15 GMT at the Pedu Lorry Station in Cape Coast.
According to the police, the arrest was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following what it described as sustained intelligence-led operations.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, Innocentia Atsufui Avinu, was allegedly picked up by the suspect on 11 June 2026 at about 18:48 GMT from Ayensu Plaza within the UCC hostel enclave.
Police said the suspect, who claims to be a teacher but also works as a driver, allegedly took the student to Hutchland Beach, where she was last seen.
The circumstances surrounding the student’s death have not yet been disclosed by investigators.
The police said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates would be provided as the case develops.
The arrest comes as authorities continue efforts to establish the circumstances leading to the death of the university student.
