After a humiliating 5-1 loss to Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Tunisia has fired Sabri Lamouchi and appointed French coach Hervé Renard as their new head coach.
Renard has a great deal of experience; he was the mastermind behind Saudi Arabia's historic victory over Argentina in 2022 and has won two AFCON titles.
Lamouchi has now become the first coach fired during a World Cup competition.
Before being fired, the 54-year-old, who had only taken over in January and was under contract until 2028, had only won one of five games.
With the North Africans under severe pressure ahead of decisive group-stage matches against Japan and the Netherlands, Renard has been tasked with saving Tunisia's World Cup campaign.
Currently, Tunisia is at the bottom of Group F with a goal margin of -4.
Renard is well-known for his achievements in African football, having led Zambia to a historic Africa Cup of Nations victory in 2012 and then winning the same tournament with Ivory Coast in 2015.
The 57-year-old also gained international attention during the 2022 FIFA World Cup when he orchestrated one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, Saudi Arabia's incredible 2-1 comeback triumph over eventual champions Argentina.
