US Court Grants Ofori-Atta Permanent Residency
Ken Ofori-Atta

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has had a major legal victory in the United States as his request to amend his immigration status has been granted by court.

The victory has opened up opportunities for him to gain lawful permanent residency in the United States.

The ruling was delivered on Monday June 16, 2026 during the hearing of his l-485 petition.

His lawyer, Frank Davies said that the court looked at matters concerning criminal investigations and accusations that the former minister is currently facing in Ghana.

According to reports, the judge raised issues regarding several irregularities related to the operations of Ghana's Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to what the court heard, the declaration was issued while the former minister was undergoing medical care in the United States and while his lawyers were still corresponding with Ghanaian investigators.

A witness familiar to international policing and interpol also presented evidence to the court and questioned steps taken by the Ghanaian government in tackling the case.

Meanwhile, Ken Ofori-Atta's legal battles continues in Ghana, stemming from decision he took during his tenure as minister of finance.

While this new development does not end his case in Ghana, legal observers are of the view that it could influence future attempts to get Ofori-Atta back t

o the country to face charges.
