Thomas Partey To Appear In Court Today Over Canadian Visa Denial

Ghana's midfielder Thomas Partey is scheduled to appear in court today as efforts are being made to reverse Canada's decision to bar him from competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The midfielder for the Black Stars is hoping that a favourable decision will enable him to join his colleagues in time for the competition.

Sports Minister Kofi Adams revealed in an interview that Partey's immigration challenge will have its first court hearing on Tuesday morning at 9 am EST, or 2:00 pm in Ghana.

According to the minister, Ghana is still hopeful because legal effort has been taken on several fronts to reverse the ruling that has so far kept the midfield player from joining his colleagues in Canada.

Kofi Adams maintains that the legal strategy consists of an appeal for restricted entrance, a request for a review of the immigration decision, and an entirely new application for reconsideration.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has intervened through diplomatic channels in response to the case, which has garnered a lot of attention.

The government had earlier formally expressed its concerns to Canadian authorities and asked that the decision preventing Partey's admission be reviewed.

Partey's absence would be a serious setback for the Black Stars when they play their first game against Panama on June 17.

In recent years, the seasoned midfielder has been one of Ghana's most important players, offering stability and leadership in the midfield.
