Ghanaian musician Rastino, also known as “Global Boy,” recently appeared on 3Music TV's 3hread Special to discuss his trending song WHY and share reflections on his evolving music career. Rastino, who has built a reputation for heartfelt lyrics and a unique blend of Ewe and English, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, especially those on TikTok, who have played a significant role in amplifying his music across borders.
Reflecting on his creative process, Rastino shared that his approach to music is deeply intentional. "I always make sure when I'm writing music, the words come out one by one," he said, emphasizing his dedication to crafting clear and relatable lyrics that audiences can connect with. The song WHY is especially meaningful to him as it tells a story of heartbreak, a theme he believes resonates with listeners from all backgrounds. Rastino credits TikTok creators, particularly in Nigeria and other parts of Africa, with helping his music reach a wider audience, explaining that the platform served as a launchpad for the song’s popularity.
Rastino has set his sights on an international reach, a goal he’s achieving through his distinct sound and cultural authenticity. Drawing influence from both Ghanaian and Nigerian artistes, he shared that musicians like Patoranking have been instrumental in shaping his sound, with their impact pushing him toward a more global vision for his music. His Ewe roots play a central role, making his music “sound so generic,” as he described, and allowing him to easily integrate Ewe lyrics that resonate deeply within the African diaspora.
Touching on his accomplishments, Rastino noted a significant milestone of over one million streams and memorable performances alongside top Ghanaian acts like Sarkodie, including a set on Accra’s renowned Chale Wote stage. His journey on TikTok has also been noteworthy, with thousands using his sound, a validation of his music’s reach.
With plans to tour Nigeria following his recent Accra tour, Rastino teased upcoming collaborations with prominent artists and hinted at major projects for next year. As he continues to navigate his path in the industry, Rastino remains committed to representing Ghanaian culture and staying authentic, aiming to leave a lasting impression on the global music scene.
