Rocky Dawuni’s Global Quest: Carrying Ghana’s Culture to the World
Rocky’s been to places you wouldn’t expect reggae to thrive, like Greenland, where fans swarmed him at the airport, or Australia, where he vibed with Aboriginal elders about their ancient song lines. Those experiences fuel his music, like his new release, I GOT A SONG, a collaboration with Cedella Marley that’s all about music’s power to connect. Filmed in Ghana and Miami, the video drops in a week, and Rocky’s pumped for fans to see it. “It’s about love, freedom, creativity,” he said, grinning. “You can’t listen without nodding or grooving.”
But it’s not just about the music for Rocky—it’s about purpose. He’s seen how commercialization can twist art into something shallow, and he’s not here for it. “Africa can’t afford a mindless music industry,” he warned, urging artists to tell stories that uplift, like the talking drums of old that carried messages across villages. He’s living proof you can stay authentic and still thrive, working with top producers and distributors while keeping his mission front and center.
