Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has reportedly filed a defamation lawsuit against outspoken media personality Blakk Rasta at the Accra High Court. The suit, filed in January 2026, seeks redress for statements made in a video posted by Blakk Rasta in December 2025, which Shatta Wale claims are false and damaging to his reputation.
The contested video, titled “SHATTA WALE, SELF‑CONFESSED KING OF FRAUD”, allegedly portrays Shatta Wale as a fraudster, claiming he is associated with individuals involved in illicit activities and suggesting that stolen funds passed through his accounts. Shatta Wale’s legal team asserts that the statements are malicious, false and injurious to the artiste’s public image.
According to court filings, the video gained significant online traction, amassing over 150,000 views on Facebook and more than 27,000 views on YouTube within 24 hours of publication. Shatta Wale’s lawyers argue that the wide dissemination of the content has exacerbated the reputational damage suffered by the artiste.
The lawsuit seeks:
• GH₵100 million in damages for reputational harm;
• A court declaration that the statements made by Blakk Rasta are defamatory;
• A permanent injunction to prevent further publication of defamatory content;
• Deletion of the video and related content across all media platforms;
• A public retraction and unconditional apology, to be issued on Blakk Rasta’s platforms and published as full-page notices in major newspapers including Daily Graphic, Ghanaian Times and Graphic ShowBiz.
The Accra High Court is expected to first serve Blakk Rasta with the writ, after which he must enter an appearance and respond to the allegations. Failure to do so may result in a judgment entered in favour of Shatta Wale.
This lawsuit adds to a series of high-profile legal disputes involving Shatta Wale, who has previously been engaged in defamation cases within the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
Shatta Wale’s legal action underscores the growing importance of accountability and responsible conduct on digital platforms, particularly in cases where public figures’ reputations are involved.
