The Black Star Square in Accra transformed into a cultural landmark on the night of ShattaFest, a free outdoor concert headlined by dancehall superstar Shatta Wale. Thousands of fans flooded the Square in what has been described as one of the biggest music gatherings in Ghana’s history, a night of rhythm, emotion and raw national pride.
On the Big Conversation Jay Foley, Lerny, C-Real and Aimee Cherry unpacked the spectacle, with on-ground insights from Jeffery.
Jay Foley compared the scale and intensity of the performance to Michael Jackson’s legendary 1993 Super Bowl halftime show.
“That moment when the lights went out and Shatta Wale stepped on stage, it was Ghana’s own Michael Jackson moment,” Foley said. “He didn’t even have to speak. The energy spoke for him.”
C-Real described it as “a masterclass in presence and influence,” emphasizing how Wale’s connection with the crowd showed a level of local loyalty rarely seen in the industry.
Jeffery, who attended the event, shared firsthand accounts of fans cheering and singing word-for-word to every track.
The team also highlighted the lessons and logistics behind such a massive turnout. While the night showcased Ghana’s artistic power, it also exposed the need for improved crowd management, security and event structure to support the country’s growing entertainment scene.
C-Real concluded, “Shatta has built something very few can replicate. The question now is how do we channel this power to shape the culture itself?”
ShattaFest has undoubtedly redefined how homegrown talent can inspire and unite a nation.
