Emerging Nigerian musician Skinny Skater is experiencing Ghana for the first time and it’s already leaving an impression. Known for his blend of Afro-fusion and emotional storytelling, the Lagos-born artiste described his initial days in Accra as refreshing and inspiring.
“I just got here yesterday, and I love it,” he said on Unpackin’ with Lerny Lomotey. “Ghana feels calm and organised very different from the chaos of Lagos. I could actually see myself living here.”
Before music took center stage, Skinny Skater was known for his passion for skateboarding the source of his now-recognisable stage name.
“I was really skinny and always skating around Lagos,” he laughed. “Everyone just started calling me ‘that skinny skater,’ and it stuck.”
Music eventually became his outlet for expression. Drawing inspiration from artistes like Burna Boy, Rema and Tekno, Skinny Skater has steadily built a sound rooted in introspection and emotion. His current single, CASANOVA, explores themes of love, maturity and vulnerability.
“It’s not about being a player,” he clarified. “It’s about understanding love differently, learning from your mistakes and facing emotions head-on.”

In 2024, he released his EP, CLOSE TO HOME, a project that showcased his range and artistic growth. The body of work combines soul, rhythm and narrative honesty, with standout tracks such as IRREPLACEABLE and NO LOVE IN LAGOS.
“Each track represents a different emotion or experience,” he explained. CLOSE TO HOME means something that resonates deeply, music that feels personal and familiar.”
Beyond his studio work, Skinny Skater also experimented with live artistry through Cloud Africa, a performance project that merged music, visual art and storytelling.
Now in Ghana, Skinny Skater hopes to connect with local artistes and explore collaborative opportunities.
As his single CASANOVA continues to gain traction across streaming platforms and another project set for 2025, the young artiste remains grounded and intentional about his path.
“If it’s time, it’s time,” he reflected. “I just create the music, stay consistent and let everything else align.”
For Skinny Skater, Ghana may not just be a stop on the journey it could become part of the story.
