Leader of the March and March Movement in South Africa, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has responded to Xenophobia claims by Ghana on their nationals as dishonest.
March and March Movement came under wide criticisms by some Africans especially Ghanaians for their rage on other African nationals to leave South Africa.
The group claimed the other African nationals in the country were taking jobs meant for them and behind criminal activities.
In a widely circulated video, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma was seen with her group questioning a Ghanaian National, Emmanuel Asamoah and asking him to leave the country.
The Ghanaian government quickly responded by calling the action a xenophobic attack and referring the issue to the African Union.
Responding to the Ghanaian government in a press briefing, Ngobese-Zuma asserted that the xenophobic claims are dishonest and an overreaction to the issue.
“The Ghanaian government overreacted. We have a lot of respect for the people of Ghana, but for them to claim that their people were beaten up when they were not is largely dishonest,” she said.
According to the group, they have great respect for Ghana and they were only engaging and individual whom they believe was violating immigration laws of South Africa.
“What we saw in the video was Victoria Africa talking to someone who had broken the laws of the country, coming legally and staying illegally, which is something a lot of foreigners do,” she added.
March and March Movement is a grassroots organization in South Africa who are focused on illegal immigration.
