The 10th edition of the Kumasi Fashion Week is set to take place from May 29 to 31 at the Kumasi City Mall, with organisers promising a larger and more immersive experience to celebrate a decade of promoting Ghanaian fashion and creative talent.
Founder and Executive Producer Amos Benyarko said this year’s event will go beyond the traditional runway format, combining fashion, music, networking, workshops and lifestyle experiences.
Speaking ahead of the event, he described the 10-year milestone as a major achievement for the platform, which started as a campus fashion initiative before evolving into one of Kumasi’s biggest fashion events.
“We are really proud to have done this for 10 years. Our goal has always been to help fashion creatives and creators in general through our platform by exposing new talents and established brands to wider audiences,” he said.
According to him, the anniversary edition is designed to give audiences “something to write home about” while reinforcing the role of fashion as part of everyday life and culture.
This year’s activities will begin with the Ultimate Fashion Workshop, a free seminar and learning session for creatives and fashion enthusiasts on May 29 at the mall’s cinema facility.
Industry professionals are expected to speak on fashion, styling and the evolving creative economy.
A networking party for designers, models, photographers, journalists and buyers will later be held at The Milan, a popular nightlife venue in Kumasi.
Runway shows will then take place on May 30 and 31, featuring designers from Ghana and other African countries. Organisers say this year’s edition will also introduce more theatrical presentations and live performances to improve audience experience.
Benyarko noted that the event has continuously evolved over the years, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic changed how fashion events were organised globally.
“Fashion is always evolving, so we also don’t stay still. It is no longer just about models walking on the runway. Designers and stylists now focus on presentation and storytelling to create lasting memories,” he said.
The event will also feature activities from beauty and lifestyle brands, including hair and styling sessions by beauty sponsor Lush Hair.
Organisers also announced a live music segment featuring Ghanaian band The Gentlemen, with a surprise guest musician expected to make an appearance during the anniversary celebration.
Benyarko said the event remains committed to positioning Kumasi as a major fashion and creative hub while creating opportunities for emerging creatives in Ghana’s fashion industry.
Tickets for the runway shows are currently available online and through designated sales platforms.
