Spotify and Sony Music Publishing Host Unique Music Publishing Camp in Ghana
Panel
Spotify, in collaboration with Sony Music Publishing, recently held an innovative Music Publishing Camp in Ghana. The event featured a series of exclusive panel discussions led by industry veterans such as GuiltyBeatz and Wale Davies, known as Tec from Show Dem Camp. The camp was designed to educate musicians, producers, publishers, and songwriters on current production trends, creative techniques, and promotional strategies.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify's Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the camp's potential to open new avenues for Ghana's music scene. She stated, "Amplifying African artistes is at the heart of our mission. Exceptional songwriting is crucial for tracks that capture listeners' hearts and minds, making this session with Sony Music Publishing a perfect opportunity to delve into the artistry of crafting lyrics, beats, and melodies."

During the discussions, GuiltyBeatz highlighted the craft of creating timeless music, noting, "It's about embracing your creative freedom and trusting your instincts to produce something truly authentic. Inspiration can come from anywhere—personal experiences, cultural events, or the world at large." He urged creatives to stay attuned to their surroundings for inspiration. Similarly, Davies emphasized the value of collaborating with peers who push one's artistic boundaries.

The camp went beyond theoretical learning, offering practical workshops for about 150 participants. These sessions focused on maximizing the benefits of Spotify's platform for artistes, particularly through Spotify for Artists. This tool suite includes songwriting support, data-driven insights, and promotional features like Songwriter Pages, Spotify Clips, and clickable in-app song credits, aiding musicians in promoting their work and acknowledging the creative teams behind their music.

Okumu further underscored the importance of songwriters and producers, saying, "They are the backbone of the music industry, continuously raising the bar and ensuring that African music remains captivating to global audiences."

This initiative not only aims to enhance the skills of local talent but also marks a significant step towards empowering African musicians to expand their reach and impact through digital streaming platforms.
